My cleanse experience so far...

2018 was one of my favorite years so far. It was full of get togethers, things to celebrate and two amazing trips. Most of the time I follow the advice I give to clients, which is do the best I can 80% of the time and relax, and be more lenient 20% of the time. In 2018 it was more like 60/40. It was fun, I enjoyed every second and don’t regret one thing, but by the end of the year, especially after all the holiday celebrations, I was more than ready to re-commit to my healthy way of eating. Why? because I just feel better. When I feel better, my experience of life is better. And, I don’t want to be a hypocrite when working with clients. Today I’m 18 days into a month long cleanse. The first nine days I eliminated gluten, dairy, caffeine, sugar, and alcohol. I also eliminated my personal kryptonites, nightshades and grains. If this leaves you wondering what the heck I can eat, it’s some meats and fish, fruit, vegetables, eggs, nuts, seeds, legumes and healthy fats. The diet part is actually pretty easy. I don’t usually eat gluten or grains. Most of the sugar I eat is from a few squares of dark chocolate after dinner and a little honey in my morning coffee. Dairy has been more challenging because cheese is one of my favorite foods and snacks. As much as I love red wine, it’s been easy to take a break. The hardest has been no caffeine! The first few days were rough. I was dragging and felt sooo tired. Just when I was starting to wonder if I actually needed caffeine to function, things got better. I did have to drink coffee on day 5 when I drove my son back to school over two mountain passes in a blizzard. I was impressed that I made it all the way there and part of the way back until I gave in and drank some. The next day, it was easy to go back to no caffeine. I hate to admit it, but in some ways I like how I feel with no caffeine better. On day 10, I started a 15 day supplemental metabolic cleansing program. It includes replacing 2 meals daily with a shake and supplements. They include nutrients that support digestion and detoxification. Each day, I also have one meal and as many snacks as I need. I’m on day 9 of this phase. After, I’ll go back to the cleansing diet for another week. Now I feel really great! I feel rested and have sustained energy throughout the day. The last two days I’ve gone snowboarding in the morning and to work in the afternoon without feeling tired. I feel really calm and good. My mind is clear and it’s easy to focus. I’m also feeling relaxed and not stressed, which is nice. This cleanse is giving me exactly what I needed, a re-set. I’m excited to continue healthfully in 2019. If your New Year’s Resolution is to make your health a priority too, I’d love to help you! It’s not always easy and you don’t have to do it alone (unless you want to!).
